Exploring the Thriller Genre
Through my research, I learned that thrillers have a long history. In the early 20th century, directors like Alfred Hitchcock shaped the genre with suspense classics such as Psycho (1960). Later, thrillers expanded into different forms like psychological thrillers (Taxi Driver), crime thrillers (The French Connection), and supernatural thrillers (The Sixth Sense). Today, films like Donnie Darko and Se7en show how the genre blends with sci-fi, horror, and drama to keep audiences engaged in new ways.

CLASSIC EXAMPLES 👻
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PSYCHO
.
This is one of the most famous thriller scenes in film history. Hitchcock builds suspense with silence, then shocks the audience with sudden violence and sharp music. It's considered a classic because it redefined thrillers, showing psychological fear and breaking story expectations by killing off the main character early.
SE7EN
DONNIE DARKO
This clip shows how thrillers can cross into the psychological and supernatural. Donnie's disturbing conversation with Frank, the man in the rabbit suit, creates tension and confusion about what's real. The unsettling imagery and unanswered questions keep viewers on edge, making this a strong example of a psychological thriller.
Final Thoughts
These three films highlight how diverse the thriller genre is. Psycho demonstrates pure suspense, Se7en reveals the power of shocking twists, and Donnie Darko Blends thriller with surreal mystery. I chose this genre because thrillers constantly evolve while always keeping their main purpose keeping the audience tense, curious, and questioning until the very end.
